FREE HERO MAKER · AGES 5 TO 11
Make your own story hero
Pick one of Litsee’s 15 heroes, dress them up, choose a painted world and give them a name. Your hero then stars in every free tool: the story starters, the dice, the reading garden, the word chest and the free stories. Print them as a poster, a colouring page or a bookmark.
Your hero comes too
- Story starters
Your hero stands in their world on the first page, and takes the main part in starters that name a hero.
- Story dice
One face of the Who? dice becomes your hero, and a hero roll decides which world they visit next.
- Reading garden
Your hero walks the garden path, one step for every day of reading, and picks up something new on the way.
- Word treasure chest
Your hero catches every word gem you keep, with its first sound if sound is on.
- Free stories
Press “Star in it” and your hero steps into the story’s pictures.
Printables starring your hero
Hero poster
An A4 poster of your hero in their world, with their name and where they live.
Colouring page
Your hero as a line drawing to colour in, made from the same picture.
Bookmarks
Three bookmarks to cut out, with a box to tick for every reading day.
Meet my hero
A character sheet for writing: looks, home, powers, a friend and a wish.
Print them from the hero maker above. Each one prints on A4, in colour or black and white, and the reading garden’s certificates show your hero too.
For teachers: a hero for every pupil
Give every pupil a numbered hero to write for, without typing any pupil’s name. Pick your own teacher avatar for the board, print it on one A4 sheet, or open whiteboard mode, where the class hero acts out a story opening before everyone writes.
The class hero board loads here.
How to use your hero in writing
Start with talk. Ask your child why they chose this hero, this outfit and this world. The answers are the start of a character description: who they are, where they live and what they can do.
Use the character sheet before writing. Children who know their hero well write stronger stories, because they already know how the hero will act when something goes wrong.
Keep the same hero for a week. Use them in a story starter on Monday, the dice on Tuesday and a word-chest word on Wednesday, and the stories begin to join up.
In class, give each pupil a hero on the class board. Pupils plan and write for their own hero, and the whiteboard hero can act out the opening before everyone writes.
Safe for children
- Children choose from Litsee’s own heroes and pictures only. There are no uploads, no photos, no camera and no faces of real people.
- Names come from the hand-picked, child-safe lists of the character name generator. Nothing your child types is used for the hero.
- Your hero stays on this page unless you press Keep. Then only the choices (hero, outfit, world and which name) are kept in this browser, and Forget clears them. Nothing is ever sent, and the hero’s name is never put in a link or sent to analytics.
- Saving a picture or printing happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
